The city of Veraval is the headquarters of the district of Gir Somnath, Gujarat. This beautiful place is positioned at about 6 kilometers from the renowned Somnath Temple in Saurashtra. Veraval is mainly famous for fisheries and it is the major industry in the city which is governed by the fisherfolk known as “Kharwas”. The city is also well-known for building boats. Here trawlers and traditional boats are used for fishing. The seafood industry in Veraval is also in a very booming stage and there are a number of factories which export fresh and excellent quality seafood to Europe, Japan, USA, Persian Gulf countries and to Southeast Asia.

History of Veraval
The Veraval city was established in the thirteenth or fourteenth century. Rao Veravalji Vadher was the founder of Veraval who was a Rajput. Earlier Veraval was a part of the Junagarh Kingdom. It used to be a fortified town and was the dwelling of Junagarh’s royal family. The place still holds the remains of the ancient heritage of the “Nawabs”.
